استخدام الدين في مكافحة الإرهاب في منطقة الساحل : تجربة الجزائر نموذجا

Abstract EN

One of the distinguishing features of international terrorism in the previous years has been the resurgence and spread of terrorist groups motivated by religious references, using violence as a holy duty or a sacred act that derives its legitimacy from scripture and justified by religious authority.

Moreover, religious terrorism is not restricted to Islamic terrorist groups exclusively in the Middle East and North Africa; other groups share the same characteristics, which are the legitimization of violence based on religious precepts, the sense of profound alienation and isolation, accompanied by the extremism and the hostility towards the society.

This study targets to understand how some governments employ religion to propagate ideas of extremism, and to indoctrinate extremists ideologically to serve the political agendas of dominating, controlling and directing peoples, as the Wahhabi movement does, and to climax the efforts of other governments to employ the same religion to combat the scourge of extremism by using and supporting moderate religious movements, as Algeria has done to support the Sufi movements across the border in the Sahel.
