English Abstract

American politicians realized that their emerging nation had an urgent need to produce a "folkloric history" for its intellectuality establishment, after taking Britain as a political enemy, before 1776.

Politicians finally decided that North Africa would be the right place to establish a new intellectual perspective outside the European extent, particularly, due to the existence of many American captives.

‘Foss’ published a novel about his diary in Algeria as a captive in 1796, and before the general situation in which the Congress commanded to prepare for a second revised edition to discuss the cultural and religious situation in Algeria while the second edition appeared in 1798.

Foss’s novel is considered to be the first novel launched by the independent America, that demonstrates the events of captivity in North Africa.
