The concept of identity is one of the complex and multifaceted concepts ,but it has a social and symbolic importance in studies interested to understanding social groups and the development of contemporary societies.

This paper presents a sociological approach to the concept of identity by reviewing the various basic elements of identity ,whether individual or collective ,focusing on the collective dimension of identity as the research axis is collective identity.
