Abstract EN

This research sheds light on the importance of Ottoman documents on Tripoli containing architectural information.

They contributed to the urban life of the city, through thousands of petitions and claims that were recorded in the Sharia court.

Waqf documents and legal deeds of purchase or sale precisely described the properties and their limits, and the reasons for their restoration or reconstruction.

They also contain information on the materials used, their cost, the number of master builders and workers together with their wages, the customs and regulations that were followed, and the role of the various craftsmen in the city.
