Abstract EN

The aim of this article is to shed light on the work of the Lebanese sculptor Youssef Hoyeck (1883-1962).

In doing so the research provides a historic and artistic critique of the life of the artist and one of his exquisite but forgotten work (the original Martyrs’ monument) (1930).

The research provides detailed analysis of the monument, its replacement by the current bronze statue and the important message of unity that Hoyeck was trying to deliver in this piece of art through carving two Christian and Muslim mothers united in grief over the loss of their loved ones.
