Ancient Arabic manuscripts are a treasure for humanity.

They are living witnesses of a millennial civilization.

The Arabic manuscripts are highly sought-after documents, but at the same time almost inaccessible.

Therefore, digitization is a salutary way for the accessibility of these resources, but the different documentary institutions in the Arab world face great difficulties related to technical, human and financial but especially legal aspects such as copyright on the net.

This study is an attempt to shed light on the need to develop a strategy for manuscript digitization projects in Arab countries.
