Abstract EN

This article shows how theoretical debates could improve foreign policy analysis, the main challenge is to exploit two features of approaches that are often in tension with each other: its aspiration to create powerful general theories, and its attempt to build theories actually working on specific situations.

To rectify the balance between the general and particular, the objects of foreign policy inquiry necessitate an engagement with, especially neoclassical realism which determines characteristics in specific features of a given situation to more general, complete explanations of foreign policy.

On the other hand, the study of foreign policy may be found in a number of subfields including comparative politics, researchers hoped emerge with a grand unified theory applicable to all nations and time periods, but this endeavor has been faced by several obstacles, so researchers give up and opt for middle-range theories that mediate between grand principles and the complexity of reality.
