Researchers as well as commentators were greatly interested in discussing the repercussions of the protests movement and popular revolts in the region with a particular emphasis on their impact on the EU.

This article deals with the potential threats of these the ongoing unrests on the interests of both the EU and the US amid growing fears and tensions (secure corridors vital navigational secure pipelines oil and gas...).

It addresses also the position of Western powers, particularly, the United States and France towards the developments in the region and their effects, through the analysis of the determinants of U.S.

and European policy in the Maghreb region.
