Abstract EN

Several Arab countries have tried to establish a democratic transition.

However, Tunisia, Libya and Egypt have seen the emergence of a local uprising, even if the objectives of each country differed depending on the internal and external contexts, as well as the active actors involved in the process.

Those who have studied these attempts will have found that some countries were able to obtain convincing results such as the Tunisian model.

Some, like Libya, are still in the grip of a civil war.

Still others, in order to regenerate themselves, opted for the survival strategy: In Egypt, the people rose up against the military regime, an institution that finally regained power.

What about the army? What are its objectives? Will it play the leading role, the one that will contribute to the transformation and consolidation of the democratic system in Egypt?
