Abstract EN

The security debate on environmental issue has delivered two main approaches; the first one is about how to maintain State security against environmental threats, while the second is about how to maintain human security against environmental degradation.

This paper focuses on the scholar tendencies in both of them and the knowledge accumulation that has made the environmental case as a security perspective.

We used human security approach to analyze the environmental security, in which (wo)man is a referent object for security.

Furthermore, this essay tries to get answers about: Would environmental security be better understood when approaching it from a human security perspective? Indeed, this research paper points-out that Toronto School has got important answers when they argue that the environmental degradation affects in massive way the man, fragile communities not represented in the academic works of the “state-centric” perspective, and that human security accounts may best analyze environmental degradation and environmental security as well.
