Abstract EN

In light of the rapid technological developments in the field of information and communication technology many commercial and service sectors have sought to employ these technologies and use them in various fields of production and marketing.

Libraries of all types in general and university libraries in particular are one of those sectors that have been able to employ these technologies in providing services High-quality information that keeps abreast of these developments and responds to the needs of its beneficiaries to the fullest.

One of the most significant developments in this regard is the emergence of a new generation of mobile phones called smart phones which has contributed to the development of its software and application industry which provides many functions and provides many services in different areas of life.

From this point of view libraries should have invested this generation of phones in providing modern and sophisticated information services to the users from any place and time in a manner that achieves its objectives to the fullest.

Against this backgroundب the main objective of this study is to plan the provision of information services to the users of the university libraries through the applications of smart phonesب in addition to providing a future vision from the point of view of the researcher to the areas of utilization of this technology to achieve the objectives of university libraries.

This study is based a documentary method for collecting the required data.

The most significant findings of the study is that university libraries can take advantage of smart phone technologies in performing its works such as following up acquisition using some applications like WhatsApp - Viber and other applications as well as access to bibliographic data available by copying them from library’s indexes and free bibliographic databases available on the Internet.

As for direct information services university libraries can offer most of these services using some of the applications available on smart phones; for example: current awareness service selective dissemination of information answering reference queries and photocopying service
