The study of Web 2.0 technology and social networks are important studies in the technical fields, especially in the field of scientific communication.

The study aimed to identify patterns of utilization of social networking sites in scientific communication between faculty members and students.

This study was applied to a sample of faculty members in the Department of Information Science at Umm Al-Qura University and King Abdulaziz University.

The study shows that 72% and 83% of faculty members at King Abdul Aziz University and Umm Al Qura, respectively, support the use of social networks in scientific communication because they save time and effort and give greater interaction and benefit.

The study recommended training courses for students to learn about the advantages of social networks and their use in scientific communication.

The faculty members also recommended the importance of increasing interest in social networks and activating ways of scientific communication with students.
