Abstract EN

The research aims to shed light on one of the experiences of the Algerian university libraries in the use of open source software.

This is the experience of Ben Youssef Ben Khdeh University through knowledge of the areas of utilization in improving the library's information services and the extent to which they are used to provide and develop these services.

The results of the study showed the ineffective use of this software due to lack of human resources, lack of awareness among university decision-makers and lack of awareness of the potential of open source software to provide effective quality services.

The research offers a number of suggestions, including: raising awareness among Algerian decision makers of the potential of OSS and the availability of proven and supported software applications, and that the development of this software through investment in the human resources concerned with programming is an added value to the information institutions and the society as a whole.

The integration of open source software into educational programs in the institutes and departments of librarianship to ensure graduates who are familiar with the ways to exploit and benefit from this software.
