In Algeria, at the beginning of the 20th century, the majority of the masters of works were French; their primary task was to forge an Algerian cultural and architectural identity through the reinterpretation of local models, in order to create the new neo Moorish style.
This reinterpretation was translated into emblematic buildings, marked by the cladding of the façades of European buildings with architectural and decorative elements; borrowed from traditional vocabulary.
In this article, we will try to study some selected works according to different cultural referents, by analyzing the architectural and decorative elements of three emblematic public buildings.
This will allow us to decipher their architectural language, and to identify the built heritage through these architectural references.

Au début du XXe siècle Les maitres d’oeuvres, dont la majorité était des français avaient comme tâche primordial de forger une identité culturelle et architecturale propre à l’Algérie, et cela à travers la réinterprétation des modèles locaux, afin de créer le nouveau style architectural néo mauresque.
Cette réinterprétation était traduite dans des édifices emblématiques, marqués par l’habillage des façades des bâtiments européens avec des éléments architectoniques et décoratifs empruntés du vocabulaire traditionnel.
Nous essayons, dans le présent article d’étudier ce travail de sélection de ces référents culturels, en analysant les éléments architectoniques et décoratifs de trois édifices publics emblématiques.
Ceci nous permettra de décrypter ce langage architectural, et d’identifier le patrimoine bâti à travers ces référents architectoniques.
