Abstract EN

This dissertation tackles the relationship between the literary and historical text, from a semiotic point of view, it is meant to deal with the theme of history and cultural memory, applied on specific samples of Iraqi prose poems, starting from the economic siege up till the political change.

These two concepts encapsulate; the historical record, the continuation of memory, mythology, and oblivion.

It begins with the semiotic-cultural approach in its study of history, memory and culture, which comprises literary work with outside content belonging to the historical and cultural context, considering the signs to be the intermediary of the meaning and significance of the social reality and the leveling or twisting of it.

It has been able to stand on past and present historical representations, reconstruct it in the prose poem, the quality of the event, symbol or incident, And the techniques working on on overlooking or forgetting some of them.
