Abstract EN
The aim of this study is to follow the development of the language education policy and the linguistic planning of language teaching in general and the Arabic language, especially in Malaysia before and after independence.
The Arabic language lost its prestige and status during the period of English occupation, which imposed the hegemony of English on the educational system.
After Malaysia's independence, the first Malaysian government excluded Arabic from its language policy, which was aimed primarily at pushing the Malay language into the country's first language of instruction.
At the end of the 20th century, however, the Malaysian government reviewed its language policies and included Arabic language instruction in its language and educational plan.
