L’influence du developpement des transports sur les formes de mutation urbaine : cas de la ville de constantine

The development of transport systems over time has greatly contributed to the mutation and transformation not only of the form, organization or functioning of the city, but also of the lifestyles of its occupants.

Urban areas are increasingly affected by urban sprawl, and by acute dysfunctions in urban mobility, linked to the expansion of the automobile.

The city of Constantine has undergone profound urban changes contributing over time to the redefinition of its form, structure and even functioning.

The development of urban transport since the French colonization had directly or indirectly played an important role in these transformations.

This work tries, through a quantitative and qualitative analysis, to initiate a reflection on the impact of modes of transport in the transformation of the city of Constantine.

The analysis is carried out on two aspects: a diagnosis of the process of evolution of urban transport in Constantine and an analysis of three forms of mutations of the city namely: morphological, social and functional.

The city has passed for more than a century, from a purely pedestrian city to a multimodal city.

Urban transport has shaped the development and transformation of the city spatially (urban reorganization, spreading), socially (lifestyle and mobility) and functionally (traffic).
