Abstract EN

Hebron is one of the most important Palestinian cities due to its historical and religious importance.

It is considered as a place of pilgrimage and a landmark for tourists from all over the world.

Hebron's religious importance stems from the fact that prophet Ibrahim (peace be upon him) lived and was buried in it.

The city is full of religious places such as Mosques and Burial Grounds which areconsidered a major attraction for tourists.

This study aims to shed light on the city of Hebron and its religious and historical significance through focusing on the religious tourist attractions that the city has.

In addition, the study aims to identify the defining characteristics of the tourist activity in Hebron.The researchers used the descriptive approach, which is the most commonly used approach in social sciences particularly geography, as well as the analytical and regional approach since Hebron is a unique region in Palestine.

The study will also utilize many research methods such as: personal interviews, photography, cartography and statistics analysis.

One of the most important results that the study concluded to is that the city includes a large number of mosques.

It has more than 170 mosques, 51of which are old and the others were recently established that is in addition to one church constructed in 2004.

In 2016, around 7728 tourists flocked to Hebron.

In 2015 and 2016, 67% and 79% of the tourists that arrived in Hebron were Palestinians.

The study got a number of recommendations including adopting international models for the development of the city of Hebron whose importance in the field of international tourism requires.

In addition, encouraging local and international tourism investment in Hebron is vital in order to prepare the region in terms of tourism.

Ministries and related institutions should participate in planning the reinforcement of tourism in Hebron.
