Abstract EN

This study aims at identifying the uses of social media applications on smart phones by people with visual impairment and the realized gratifications of these applications.

The study also aims at determining top mobile applications used by these people, and to what extent such applications fit their needs.

The study is considered a descriptive one as it relied on media survey method through surveying audience and media types.

Data was collected by newspaper survey tool.

The Study sample was selected using simple random sampling, and consisted of (200) sampling units.

The sampling units included people with visual impairment (partially or totally) Of students with visual disabilities enrolled in Palestinian universities in the governorates of Gaza during the period of 20/8/2017-20 / 10/2017..The study concluded with a set of recommendations, the most important of which were as follows: .1 %1111of the investigated sample use social media applications on smart phones.

.2Facebook is the most used one among other social media (79.7 %), followed by YouTube (72 %), and then WhatsApp (61 %( .3The most underlying motives of using social media are because they are firstly available and secondly entertaining in the free time.

The most important recommendations of the study : .1 Developing the services provided by social media applications on smart phones to serve the needs of people with visual impairment .

2.Taking advantages of social media applications on smart phones to develop the social and psychological aspects of people with visual impairment.
