This study aimed to examine the structure and competitiveness and their effect on the financial performance of the Jordanian Islamic banks, and to find out the competitiveness levels prevailing in the Jordanian Islamic banking market, based on a sample of two Jordanian Islamic banks during the period (2000-2015).
The study used two econmitric models, the first was Panzar-Rosse model that measure the competitiveness through H-Statistic, while the second was a regression model that includes a set of independent variables to determine their impact on return on assets (ROA).
The study results showed the existence of a monopolistic competition in the Islamic banking market, also the results indicated the presence of a positive impact of the cost of labor, the cost of deposits, financing ratio, and the ratio of deposits on total revenues ratio, while the equity ratio, liquidity ratio had a negative impact on total revenues ratio.
The results showed a positive effect of the cost of labor, the cost of deposits, total assets, deposits ratio, Herfindahl-Hirschman index, and market share in terms of assets and deposits on the return on assets, while the cost of capital, the equity ratio, the facilities ratio had a negative impacts on the return on assets of Islamic banks.
The study recommended the Islamic banks to enhance its competitiveness in the market, in particular through the creation of new investment tools, beside its financial investments, taking into account the trade-off between liquidity and profitability.
