Abstract EN

This study examines and analyzes the discourse of the Omani newspapers; mainly the Oman daily on the Dhofar War.

After identifying the main and sub- issues on which the newspaper discourse focused, the study examines the influential forces, and the frames of reference.

This study adopts survey methodology and uses discourse analysis as a tool of analysis.

It applies the comprehensive sampling technique by analyzing all materials published in 170 issues by Oman Arabic Daily related to the Dhofar War.

Some of the main results of this study indicated that the Oman daily newspaper adopted a methodology of assigning qualities of praise or criticism to influential forces based on the principle of whether these influential forces were with or against.

The results also mentioned that the Oman daily newspaper used salient religious and social frames to stigmatize the influential forces involved in the Dhofar War.

For example, the frames «enemies of God» and «atheists» are derived from the Islamic framework, whereas the frames «heroes» and «braves» are derived from the social framework.
