Arabic traditional dictionaries such as as-sihah, al qamus al-Muhlt and lisan al-cArab consider four-letter words beninning with cayn as cib!d and cusfur as originally four-letter words.
Therefore, in these cases the initial cayn is seen? original?.
Similarly cartam and ci^d measure as faclal and ficlil respectively.
This study aims at proving that cayn is? assitional? and thus cartam is derived as ratama and cib!d as rabada.
