Abstract EN

The aim of this study was (a) to investigate the psychometric properties of the love of life scale (LLS), (b) to estimate its associations with positive psychology variables, and (c) to compare its mean scores with previous studies.

A sample of (777) undergraduates from Algeria was recruited.

They responded to the LLS, the Arabic Scale of Happiness, the Arabic Schedule of Optimism and Pessimism, and the Satisfaction with Life Scale.

These scales have good alpha reliability coefficients except for the Satisfaction Scale among females.

Alpha and test-retest reliabilities of the LLS ranged between (74) and (93), indicating good internal consistency and acceptable stability.

All the correlations between the LLS and the above-mentioned scales were statistically significant.

A principal component analysis retained one high-loaded factor labeled “Love of life and optimism versus pessimism”.

Sex-related difference in LLS was not significant.

The mean LLS score of the Algerian students tended to be high.

This result was congruent with the advanced order of Algeria in the World Happiness Report.
