Abstract EN

Based on the case of the Tunisian Truth and Dignity Commission, this research paper attempts to analyses the relationship between memory policies and the transitional justice, while graining insights from the humanities and social sciences references.

Having as research resources, the publishing of this Commission on its official Facebook page, its president’s declarations as well as those of its council members in the different mass media, this article investigates the individual and institutional reactions on all these issues as well.

Moreover, the investigation is based on meeting we held with related activ e people either from within or from outside the Commission.

This research paper focuses on the circumstances that surrounded the establishment of this Commission: political party conflicts and political tensions and the relation of all this with the balances of power within the legislative institution that established it, that is to say the Constituent Assembly.

For there more, this paper is concerned with the impact of these conflicts on the work within this Commission: dismissals and resignations and mass media campaigns for and against the Commission are investigated on focusing on memory policies, our main concern, is to investigate thoroughly the challenges and strategies that direct the actions of actors, and that can be seen in a clear way through the example of the open meeting that the Truth and Dignity Commission organized in order to listen to the victims of the post colonialist state building period known as «Yusfin» they suffered from being killed, tortured, and imprisoned.

A second example concerns the documents that the Commission published and that doubt the truth of the Tunisian independence from France.

These two events resulted in highly strained and very symbolic reactions, mainly from historians.

This research paper devotes a special investigation to the discussions that the testimonies presented and the documents published have raised.
