Abstract EN

The science of the defects that affect the soundness of the prophetic tradition is one of the most ambiguous yet significant sciences of hadith.

Therefore, Muslim scholars have paid crucial attention to this particular field throughout the history of Islamic heritage up to the present era.

This paper aims to shed light on a clue that helps to discover defects of hadith.

This clue is the phrase “never existed chain of transmission” or “never possible chain of transmission” that comes in the related context of hadith narration.

The research has examined the above concept and its relationship to the sciences of hadith and has collected those hadiths that contain this statement in the book “al-‘ilal” by Abu Hatam al-Razy, with a view to examining and analyzing them.

Using the descriptive and analytical method, the study found out that the “never existed chain of transmission” is a phrase that indicates rejection of the Hadith, opens further investigation on the chain of its narration, and shows that the defect lies in ignorance or suspicion about one of the Hadith reporters other than the main narrator.
