Abstract EN

This research seeks to highlight Food calories as modern scientific discoveries and to emphasize their importance as clues adopted by Islamic Law.

It shows their impact on Zakat Jurisprudence and addresses two important Zakat topics.

The first topic concerns the use of food calories as indicators of the food items that are subject to Zakat according to jurists who argue for the obligation of Zakat on edible food and who use food calories to prove that the food is beneficial for mankind.

The second topic concerns the use of food calories to determine the minimum of what can be given to the poor after determining the eligibility for Zakat on the basis of the degree of need, bearing in mind that this method relies on accurate scientific measurements which can serve as a basis for studying food poverty level among humans.
