Abstract EN

The study aims to identify the efficiency of using water irrigation in Jordan valley and the using of irrigation water efficiently to irrigate crops and its impact on rural development in the Jordan valley region.

data collected through questionnaire distributed randomly totaling 97 farmers and statistically analyzed using the percentage ratios, means and pearson correlation coefficient.

the result of study showed that 35.1٪ of farmers belong to the age group (31-40) and 73.2of them there monthly income is less than 500 Jordanian dinar and the agriculture job is the main source of the income.

the study showed that 34٪ of Jordan valley farmers planting crops of high water requirements with low economic revenue per unit of water, such as bananas and citrus cultivated in Jordan valley.

in addition of spring cultivation practices, in spite of its large consumption of water high loss in irrigation water compared with winter cultivation season.

64.9٪ of farmers using traditional methods of irrigation and determine the time and amount of irrigation water needed for crops without using moisture measure equipment’s and plants morphology .

the low price of irrigation water encourages many people to waste large amounts of water to achieve the high profits regardless of the loss of large amounts of low-cost water.

the study recommends to achieve benefits, using high water irrigation efficiency by stopping planting crops with high consumption of water, using irrigation techniques such as deficit irrigation, hydrometers to determine right time and amount for irrigation.

in addition to nontraditional water resources such as saline and treated water, restricted regulation on water loss and all the procedure will increase the available water for agriculture, increasing agricultural area and make job opportunities for people in Jordan valley region, reflected on the improvement and development of the Jordan valley region.
