This research outlines a topic that has recently been subject to much controversy in the financial and economic field, which is digital currency or what is commonly known as the Bitcoin, a topic that has received the attention of many individuals and countries.

Bitcoin is a cryptocurrency that is traded on the market as an alternative to the traditional form of money.

The researcher finds this subject serious and important at the present time and seeks to determine Islamic ruling on it within the framework of Shari’a.

The study tackles the authenticity of Bitcoin, its characteristics and its origins as it investigates the extent to which it complies with Islamic money regulations, in an attempt to come to a conclusive ruling on it, which will help researchers and specialists of Islamic sciences use the data of this research for further investigations.

The researcher concluded that cryptocurrencies in their current form are not compliant with Shari’a, because they are not in line with money regulations as set by Islamic jurists and because of their negative effects on the economy.
