Abstract EN

This study aims to spot the controlling factors of the decrease in fertility in Algeria، which is the number of living births for each woman.

We have conducted this study on a sample of women at the maternity section in Laghouat، thus the rates of population growth were high especially after the independence as a result of the improvment in living and health levels، and as an atonement for the grave shortage in population number.

Soon، this growth started to become dangerous for the developmental programs of the government in the shadow of population expansion and the lack of ability to cover it all.

It became necessary to search for solutions for this problem.

So، the government have adopted the policy of birth control through groups of procedures and programs specifically the diverse tools of contraception.

All that coincides with the increase in the education level for women specifically، and going out to work، and this is a result for the government’s efforts to fight illiteracy، and enabling women in society، which has reflected on many of them to delay marriage age، which is a result to the increase of their educational level، and the rise of professioanl ambition، and even in the case of marriage، the decrease of fertility is seen.

That’s either due to the increase of educational level، or going out to work.

It is noticed that women’s births are decreasing a year after another، therefore we have asked the following main question: what are the reasons behind the decrease of women’s fertility in laghouat?
