Lava formations surrounding the Holy city of Al Madinah Al Munwwarah from three different locations: East, South, West.

The Northern area is open.

The Holy mosque is located in a bolson like area, covered by Quaternary depositions.

It stands as the center of Al Madinah.

The purpose of this investigation is: To study the geomorphology of lava formations at Al Madinah, based on Multi-Source Data Topographic maps, Geological maps, Thematic maps, Satellite image – SPOT 5 in 2012, to apply supervised classification and knowledge of the field ; To recognize the lava different types; To appraise the chances of it's future volcanic eruptions ; To evaluate its roles as developing groundwater sustainability in Al Madinah area; and to support the concept which refer to as a unique target for tourism.
