Abstract EN

Problem of the study lies within the fact that volunteering efforts in the Saudi society are fragile and less than the required level.

The reason can be attributed to low levels of participation among young people in volunteering activities and limitation of such work.

Such low level of volunteering activities and its domains in our society is mainly due to the absence of the culture of volunteering among large numbers of individuals.

Not to mention, several hurdles such as lack of social raise encouraging children to take part in volunteering activities; and absence of positive parental methods of treatment to help children participate in such activities.

While activating the culture of volunteering is correlated to elimination of such hurdles and improvement of such culture thru raise, the researcher has conducted this study with the aim to recognize the relationship between the culture of volunteering and some parental methods of treatment as perceived by university students.

The study further aims to detect and recognize differences in the culture of volunteering according to the features of students and parents.

It aims also to detect and recognize the differences in parental methods of treatment as perceived by children according to the features of students and parents.

To this aim, the researcher has employed the analytical descriptive approach.

Data and information of the study were collected thru a questionnaire distributed over a sample group composed of 374 Saudi university students (of both genders).

In order to attain the objectives of the study, the researcher has designed the following tools: a general application for students, parents, and participation in volunteering activities; a questionnaire to reveal the culture of volunteering; and a questionnaire to detect and recognize the parental treatment as perceived by children.

Proper statistical analyses were carried out in order to conclude findings and verify reliability of assumptions.

Following are among the most significant findings concluded by the study.

A direct correlation has been recognized between some topics of volunteering culture “Concept of Volunteering Work and Significance of Volunteering Activities” and Parental Methods of Treatment as Perceived by Children.

The study also concluded a reversed correlation between hurdles of volunteering activities and parental methods of treatment as perceived by children.

There were statistically indicated differences between the average marks obtained by members of the sample group at the cultural level of volunteering according to variables of the study.

Similarly, there were statistically indicated differences between average marks obtained by members of the sample group in terms of parental methods of treatment as perceived by children according to variables of the study.

The researcher recommended training and educational courses be held for parents in order to raise awareness about the significance of using positive methods of treatment with children, instill volunteering work and reinforce the values and culture of volunteering among them, and eliminate the hurdles that hold back such volunteering work.

The researcher has also recommended orientation programs be made thru mass media in order to guide parents to the best approaches to deal with children, which, in turn, are reflected on all aspects of personality among them.

By doing so, children would be able to socially participate in volunteering activities and assume the responsibilities of volunteering work; encouraging them to take part in such activities; praise their achievements; and motivate them emotionally and be proud of their volunteering activities.
