The aim of the current research is to verify the effectiveness of the motivational interview method in reducing the self-harm behavior of a sample of middle school students in Basra governorate, and to move those goals into study and application, first to determine the prevalence of self-harm among students in middle-school education in governorate in order to achieve the goals of this study, the researchers have adopted the( Kazem 2010) measure to measure self-harm, and to build a mentoring program based on a motivational interviewing method, taking into account the scientific steps to build measurement tools.

Following the application of the self-harm measure to the core sample of 600 students, 300 female students and 300 male students, and the processing of data using the statistical pouch (SPSS), the results of the survey showed female superiority over men at the level of self-harm, and based on that result a sample was withdrawn Female students who received the highest score on the measure of self-harm numbered 24.

In the light of the type of experimental design adopted in the current research, the sample of the experiment was distributed to two experimental groups and a female officer at random and (12) female students per group.

The experimental treatment group was then subjected to the use of motivational interviewing and withheld treatment from the officer controlling group.

At the end of the trial period, 19 meetings were held and three meetings per week.

The researchers processed the data of the tribal and the two groups with the adoption of the two-threaded sample and the man winty test, and the results of the telemetry of the experimental group showed a noticeable decrease compared to the results of the tribal measurement of the same group and the results the telemetry of the commanding group.

While the officer controlling group maintained a high level of self-harm in the tribal and other sizes.

The scientific experiment demonstrated the impact of the motivational interviewing method in reducing the self-harm behavior of the experimental group.

In the light of these findings, a number of recommendations and suggestions were concluded.
