Water revenues are not the biggest problem in the water resources sector in Iraq.

They are the water policies of neighboring countries, poor management and use of water resources, and low efficiency of water use.

The rate of water losses in the agricultural sector is about 17.47 billion cubic meters per year, The high rate of evaporation in the center and south of Iraq, so the expansion of the uses of agricultural land without planning for its requirements and needs and water quotas will affect the agricultural development and this waste of funds and efforts, as well as the lack of use of modern technologies and low efficiency of irrigation during transport and distribution and other Agricultural practices that affect the quality of water, so it is necessary to focus on the commitment to water consumers and reduce water shortages and this requires the application of the principles of optimal use in the management of water resources.
