Abstract EN

This study aimed at investigating the obstacles facing libraries at the governmental secondary schools in Al-Karak Governorate as perceived by principals and school librarians.

Other objectives were to find out the effect of gender, qualification, and experience on principals' and librarians' estimation to the obstacles, and whether there were differences between principals and librarians in estimating them.

A questionnaire was distributed among a sample that consisted of (100) principals and (100) librarians of whom (178) responded (89%).

The Findings indicated that the principals' and librarians' estimation of the obstacles facing school libraries was generally high, and that obstacles related to buildings and equipment (furniture and technology) were the highest among all obstacles.

Results also showed no effect for gender, academic qualification, and experience variables on the principals' and librarians' estimation to the obstacles.

Nevertheless, the results showed a statistical significant difference between principals' and librarians' in their estimation of the obstacles with stronger effect for librarians.
