We do not seek in this paper to deconstruct poetic discourse in order to find its tiny components, nor to base ourselves on the foundations that constitute a poem or a literary text.

However, we want to reach here the foundations of the definition of poetry, to reveal its role and value, and at the same time to relate to many philosophical concepts of metaphysical significance such as the concepts of truth, existence, thing, spirit and imagination.

We have therefore tried to ask the following questions: What is poetry ? Can it be defined ? Can its forms be determined ? In order to address this problem, we have decided to adopt the comparative analytical approach based on the presentation of the philosophical and historical questions that serve the stages of this research with the specific comparison of its parts.

We can conclude from this study that poetry cannot be defined.
