Abstract EN

The study aimed at investigating the factors leading to drug use as perceived by Jordanian university students.

For this purpose, a questionnaire was designed consisting of two parts.

The first part included the personal variables such as sex, age, place of residence and academic level.

While the second part included the scale of the study consisting of (32) items.

A simple random sample of 2032 university students was selected.

The results revealed that there are multiple factors leading to drug abuse and the most prominent factors were the weakness of religious faith, bad companionship, ignorance and lack of awareness, the non deterrent of legal action, easy accessibility to drugs, the negative impact of the media, unemployment, disintegration of family, absence of the family guidance, drop out of school, family and social problems and anxieties, the weakness of security controls.

The study suggested some recommendations and effective solutions to curb the spread of this phenomenon.
