The present article aims at shedding light on almost novel translation aspect i.e.

translating and localizing websites.

It traces back the evolution of localization and tries to encompass its basic notions, leading strategies, main classifications and the role of ‘translation studies’ and its contribution to the emergence of this field of knowledge.

It is indeed a quick overall look on a translation aspect with huge perspectives and which, should it be taken into consideration, would be of a great advantage for companies, translators and users.
