Abstract EN

The General Governor Card started ruling in 1930 the year when France was celebrating a century of colonialism in Algeria.

The celebration knew huge ceremonies that meant to bother the Algerians’ feelings who were basically suffering for their colonized country.

However, those ceremonies rised highly the national and religious spirits which kept moving the Algerians’ desire to gain their independence .

Consequently a new reformist movement had been developed in Algeria, such as the Muslim Scholars Assembly in 1931 .

This Assembly identified and underlined new strategies and clear goals to confront the French policy that adopted a project for destroying the minds of the generations for a whole century.

This step pushed the Governor Card to react by issuing unfair decisions against the assembly programs, and repressing its followers in the mosques and the clubs ,and controlling tightly the leaders of the Assembly.

Michel decisions in 1933, for instance, refused the permission to open new free schools of extension and guidance .These decisions were totally against Islam and the Muslims in Algeria.

In this year, Constantine has known the crisis of the elected members who knew that they were not going to gain anything from the colonizer’s administration.

The city of Constantine had also seen bloody events between the Jews and the Muslims because of the profanation of Sidi Lakhder mosque.

The General Governor’s era was terminated by Renee decree in 1935 for oppressing the Algerian’s manifestations against the unfair French policy in Algeria and the decrees and laws that limit individual and collective freedoms
