The specific jurisdiction of the International Criminal Court contains crimes against humanity as one of the international crimes within its jurisdiction.

The Rome Statute played a role in the codification and definition of crimes against humanity and avoided criticism of the definition of this type of crime in the Nuremberg Charter.

The Rome Statute also avoided the narrowing of the 1951 Act against attacks on peace and human security, which limited the scope of crimes against humanity to those committed against particular groups suchas ethnic , racial or culturel groups.

On the other hand, the Rome Statute was in line with the system of the Tribunal for the former Yugoslavia and Rwanda on the definition of crimes against humanity, with the ICC system expanding the forms of sexual offenses to include new crimes.
