Abstract EN

Great Arabic critic Shukree Ayyad went on saying that literary criticism can be described with a scientific attribute.

If the critic took his inner inborn gift as the base for his comparison between literature texts, it is "taste" in a studied, explicit way and away from the subjective sides.

Reaching the point of judging the literary text according to a general reference is the value.

So he discussed this case among basic subjects in criticism and that is: the scientific side of criticism and its artistry, the general rules, the special rules, evaluation and explanation.

And he came to the conclusion that taste is a middle criterion between those subjects.

This thought that can be said to have formed Shukree Ayyad’s independent theory.

It raises numbers of important questions which the recent research will try to answer.

The first one is related to the necessity of clarifying the precise meaning of this idea, and the concepts of taste and value.

Then was Ayyad the first one to speak about it? Was his understanding of literary criticism and its function formed around the idea of the scientific attribute of criticism regardless of the other side ? That is the artistry of criticism, and the relation of literature and its function (according to him) with the necessity of simulating the human life in its sides: virtue and vice.
