Abstract EN

The political life the city of Tlemcen experienced in some periods during the Zayani history was characterized by internal strife, and the repeated campaigns of Mirenite and Hafsien on the capital of Zayani.

This did not directly affect the intellectual life prevailing in the city or hindered its growth, but it conserved its scientific values in spite of the dark political circumstances.

During the eighth and ninth centuries AH, corresponding to the fourteenth and fifteenth centuries the Zayani state witnessed a decline in Politics that led to the spread of Sufi methods, and the prevalence of sorcery.

In addition to scientists’ migration abroad, all these circumstances affected negatively the intellectual and the scientific life in Middle Maghreb during this period.

However, this situation did not prevent the existence of scientific and intellectual life despite its influence by the conditions of that time.

During the 8th century AD, The seeds of the scientific renaissance were planted, and that will show fruit during the ninth century AH.

This is evidenced by the emergence of a group of scholars and writers who attained high status in various sciences and literature.

What factors encouraged the scholars and their students to increase their knowledge of sciences?
