Abstract EN

This article attempts to shed light on the argumentative mobility of the syntactic presupposition in Imam Ali’s speeches of war, using the linguistic model of Oswald Ducrot and Catherine Kerbrat-Orecchioni.

In studying the properties of syntactic presupposition, highlighting the predominant syntactic structures and making clear their argumentative power, we approach syntactic presupposition from multiple angles.

Results of the study have shown that syntactic presupposition, used in these speeches, are not related to contextual data; they are, however, rooted in the very structure of the language itself.

This makes syntactic presupposition, from an argumentative perception, irrefutable and undeniable, makes the speaker close to the world of his interlocutors, and guarantees their cooperation and ultimately their agreement.
