Abstract EN

The article is to study the background of the labor movement in Algeria between 1919-1929, a very important period in the history of modern Algeria, The end of the First World War was the birth of many political and ideological ideas that one way or another influenced the labor movement in the world, and in Algeria in particular, despite the restrictions imposed by the French government on the «Algerian colony» in the sake of total control of the individuals’ movement and in the name of internal affairs, the new ideas were adopted and went by several names.

The golden rule here is that all ideas are set to defend the working class, despite the exclusion of Algerians from the political and social reality, Algerian activists continued to reinforce the idea carved by communism to spread in the colonies.

The process of exploiting the Algerians as a magnificent force defending France or as a working force in the ammunition factories, and supplies despite their difficulties and disadvantages, but it had so many advantages, such as the exchange of ideas with foreign workers from their colony or even other colonies, whether labor struggle or independent political thoughts, both in the service of the colonized community and in the sake of helping each other.

The trade union organization of workers in Algeria was divided into three streams, each according to its intellectual and ideological orientation: The general confederation of labor, the general confederation of labor (CGTU), and the Christian syndicate.

The General Confederation of labor decided to demand the application of all social laws favoure of the Algerian workers in Algeria, as is the case in France, trying to unite workers against employers.

Railway workers were so keen on the general confederation of labor’s thoughts rejecting the idea of colonial exploitation of peoples through its solid implicit stand by their side.

The Christian union belonged to a limited group of workers, who were explicitly the European religious workers.
