Abstract EN

This study deals with the subject of coexistence between the Hanafi school and that of Maliki in Algeria during the Ottoman period, it is well known that the Maliki doctrine is the doctrine of jurisprudence that has dominated for a long time in the Middle Maghreb (Algeria), until the majority of the inhabitants of Algeria adopt and apply this doctrine, with the arrival of the Ottomans in Algeria at the beginning of the sixteenth century, they carried off the Hanafi doctrine, which they had previously adopted as an official doctrine of the Ottoman Empire, as a result, the Hanafi doctrine became the doctrine of the official authority in the Ottoman Empire in Algeria, doctrine followed and applied by the ruling political and military class, as well as the Kouloughlis and Janissaries classes.

However, this does not mean that the Maliki doctrine has been marginalized or harassed by the Ottomans, on the contrary, the indigenous inhabitants of Algeria remained to adopt their Maliki doctrine in their daily transactions, their jurisprudence and in the social field.

The coexistence of the two doctrines appears in several levels, especially in the field of justice and advisory opinions, which has been characterized by the duplication in its structure between the Hanafi and Maliki, as well as in the field of education, which brought together teachers and academics from Hanafi and Maliki schools in various educational institutions, and a program that includes Hanafi and Maliki jurisprudence.

In addition, the relations of cooperation and coordination between the two doctrines in many general issues related to the Algerian society.
