Abstract EN

This study has 3 aims: a) to adapt the Rempel’s scale of Trust in Close Relationships, b) to identify the degrees of marital trust among a sample of couples in Hebron district, and to investigate the differences in Marital Trust according to some independent variables, such as gender, economic status, and educational level, and c) to examine the relationship between Marital Trust and both psychological adjustment and self-esteem among couples in Hebron, as well as examining the capability of these variables in predicting Marital Trust.

A random sample of 229 married couples (120 husbands, 109 wives) responded to Rempel’s (1985) Trust in Close Relationships Scale, Shogair’s Psychological Adjustment scale Rosenberg’s Self-Esteem Scale.

The study concluded that the Rempel scale has strong psychometric properties, the degrees of marital trust in Hebron are fairly high, and the degrees of Marital Trust vary according to gender in favor of males, vary according to the economic level in favor of high-incomes, while there were no differences attributable to the level of education.

The study also found a significant relationship between Marital Trust and both psychological adjustment and self-esteem and these two variables can be used to predict the marital trust as revealed by the Stepwise Multiple Regression (Beta values were 0.51 and 0.23 respectively, which are statistically significant).

The study concluded with a set of recommendations.
