Abstract EN

The study aimed at educating the child in the first elementary grades to be able to assimilate citizenship values by strengthening a set of related values.

Freedom of expression was chosen as a basic value to start with when implementing a program designed to stimulate the awakening of values in children in elementary school levels.

The study aimed at enhancing freedom of expression of opinion among first, second and third grade students in Jordan at the Directorate of Special Education.

A special tailored program of awakening values was conducted in Rosary College.

A field study was implemented through the awakening of values program on a sample of 90 male and female students in the first, second and third elementary grades for the academic year (2016-2017).

The assessment process was carried out within a pre-test, semester and post-test scales, as both quantitatively and qualitatively.

The results of the quantitative study showed an increase in the number of participants in the freedom of expression test.

The percentage increased from 19% to 76% during the academic year, and the percentage of silent women decreased from 81% to 24% during that academic year.

The results of parents’ survey showed a decrease in parents' responses to silent students when discussing family matters.

The number of respondents decreased from (61) in the pre-test scale to (31) in the post-test, indicating the high participation of students expressing their opinions.

The results in the qualitative measure showed an increase in all measurement criteria on the checklist.

The study recommended the need to deepen expression of opinion among students in the first elementary classes so as to assimilate all citizenship rights concepts in practice.
