Abstract EN

This study aims at gathering Ibn Al-Kharrat Al-Eshbili’s opinions published in his dictionary entitled Al-Wa’I (The Conscious) and studying ancient Arab skepticism that was explicitly expressed about the dictionary or its author.

The study has set a specific working method aimed at achieving its desired goal.

It introduced Ibn Kharrat Al-Eshbili and the linguistic position he occupies, exposed his linguistic theories and categorizing them, and analyzed his work with a view to findings are that out about the linguistic resources he had used to produce his dictionary.

The study’s most important findings is that Al-Wa’I Dictionary is one of the most important dictionaries that explained Arabic language in an encyclopedic format, and that was unfortunately forgotten as a precious contribution to our heritage.

It has even been categorized under The Mysteries in the Quran and the Noble Hadiths of the Prophet (BPUH).

Its significance lies in the fact that it continues to be the most valuable source for many scholars, and the endless citations of his work testify to its scientific value.

Ibn Kharrat handled linguistic issues in a scientific manner that made his opinions, analyses and inferences unique scientific contributions.
