Abstract EN

The current study aims at identifying differences in the levels of Alexithymia among Imam Abdurrahman bin Faisal University students using social media and to identify the correlation between using social media and Alexithymia.

The importance of the study shows up in its originality.

There is no Arab study that examined the subject of the study - to the knowledge of the researcher.

In addition, there is scarcity in foreign studies that have dealt with this topic.

Also, social communication sites as a modern phenomenon in the community and their impact on mental health need to be deeply studied.

The study used the descriptive comparative approach which was applied on a sample of (320) male and female students.

The study used the Alexithymia scale originally prepared by Taylor and Ryan in (1985) and translated by Iraqi Mohammed (2006), as well as the social media scale (Khalawi, 2017).

Results revealed that there are differences between people with high Alexithymia and those with low Alexithymia in using social media for the benefit of those with low Alexithymia.

Also, there is a significant negative correlation between the use of social media and Alexithymia.

There are differences in Alexithymia for the benefit of females and there are differences in the use of social media, also for the benefit of females.
