Abstract EN

This research aims at throwing light on the historical significance of the provenance El Fayum in the early centuries of Hegira and put high lights on the importance of studying the Arabic papyri, which found in thousands inside and outside Egypt in the astronomical worldwide groups.

The papyri show us for example the importance of two communities, the Fayyūm, an oasis located some hundred kilometers south of modern-day Cairo and Fustāt the newly founded Muslim capital of Egypt, and the economic and social relations that existed between them in early Islamic Egypt.

Trade relations between the two localities consisted of the exchanges of commercial goods, agricultural produce and other products originating or fabricated in one place which found their way to the other commercial centre by way of traveling traders and through well-established commercial contacts between traders and producers operating in both places.

There is also evidence of family and other social relations between the inhabitants of these two places, as expressed in private letters relating and asking for news of family members or acquaintances, requests for personal favors, marriages that were concluded between members of the different communities and reports of visits for personal reasons.

Therefore, I have deemed it quite appropriate to conduct a scientific study dealing with this subject in light of the Arabic papyri and I choose the Arabic papyri which related to Fayum especially Arabic papyri related to social life in el Fayum during the third century of Hegira
