The aim of the present research is recognition (the effect of using Polya model on achievement and developing the trends towards mathematics for eighth basic class students).

Based on those aims the researchers formulated (4) null basic hypothesis and (4) null sub-hypothesis which are related to the trends towards mathematics.

The researcher has used an experimental method with two equal groups with pre-test and post-test that required presence of two groups one of them is experimental and the other is control, the scope of the study consisted of all eighth basic class students of Day school for (2017-2018) in the center of Erbil city, sample of the research included (60) students distributed randomly into two groups (29) students for experimental group and (31) students for control group, Polya model has been used for teaching the experimental group whereas the traditional method used for teaching the control group.

The researchers emphasized equality of experimental and control groups by a number of variables: Chronological age of the students measured by months, intelligent.

achievement, previous information test in mathematics, the overall rate of the students in former year, and the trends towards mathematics.

Two tools required to achieve the aims of the research: Firstly/ the construction of achievement test: the final number of its items was (37) multiple choice items after extracting the coefficient of difficulty, discriminatory ability to the items and the effectiveness alternatives.

Secondly/ preparing the measurement of the trends towards mathematics: the final number of its items was (31) with its alternatives (strongly agree, agree, hesitant, disagree, strongly disagree) after checking its validity, reliability and doing statistical analysis on it.

The researchers adopted (40) teaching plans: (20) for polya models and (20) for traditional method.

In the end of research The researchers concluded that using Polya model greatly affected in eighth basic class students achievements in mathematics balancing with the usual method and Polya model is better than the usual method in developing the trends towards mathematics.

Based on the research results the researcher recommended a number of recommendations and proposed some proposals for future work.
